TESTIMONIALS

"Medic One saves lives. I am Greg Wright, retired fire chief. I retired about 18 months ago. I am sharing these words because I feel so strongly about the service that Thurston County Medic One provides to our community.
Throughout my 35 plus year firefighting career, I was deeply engrained in the partnership between Thurston County Fire agencies and Medic One. Medic One is a strong, nationally-recognized EMS system and a model of multi-departmental cooperation.
Our community relies on Medic One, they value Medic One, they support Medic One and sometimes on their worst days, they call upon Medic One. Medic One has always been ready to answer their call. I was proud to support Medic One while I was working and I am comforted to know that I am supported by Thurston County Medic One for my emergency medical needs in my retirement."

"My seventy year old husband had three spells where he passed out and couldn't remember anything over the course of 5 months.
On May 1st, 2021, he had another one and this time I called 911. These guys were amazing! Their response time was just a few minutes. They listened to me when I said he needed to go to the hospital even though his vitals were normal. They made it possible for me to stay with him even though the ER receptionist had said, “No”. That evening in the ER they put in a temporary pace maker after his heart rate dropped a few more times and then stopped, requiring CPR. On May 2nd they put in his permanent pace maker and he’s doing great today!
The EMT’s from McLane/Black Lake and the Paramedics from Tumwater made me feel comfortable in my concern for my husband during one of the most stressful times in our lives. If it weren’t for their fast response and quickly getting him to the ER my husband would have died. I am 74 with very weak arms, there is no way I would have been able to perform adequate CPR to save him so, I will be forever grateful to them. They got him exactly where he needed to be and saved my husband’s life!"

"To whom it may concern,
I want to take a minute to call out the amazing actions and all-around professionalism of the Tumwater Fire Department staff who responded to a recent emergency for my son.
On April 17th, 2021, my family experienced a pretty traumatizing event at a local bike track in Tumwater. I had taken my 13-year-old and his friend to the track to ride and brought along my younger two children as well. About 15 or 20 minutes after arriving, the older kids were riding and jumping when my son’s friend came over the far hill yelling that my son was hurt.
This track is large, and it took me about 30 seconds to run to the area and saw my son laying on the ground unconscious and bleeding from his mouth. We immediately called 911 and told them my son needed medical attention right away. The dispatcher was great, talking me through checking if he could move his legs or respond to questions.
The Tumwater Fire Department arrived within minutes and found us on the track. They were so quick and professional and got my son stabilized on a back board and in neck collar as quickly as possible. Obviously, I was very upset because I didn’t know how badly my son was hurt, but the fire department staff kept reassuring me that everything was going to be OK and talking me through the decisions I needed to make regarding transport to the hospital. They even watched diligently over my 3 and 5-year olds, giving them stickers and explaining what was happening to their brother and that he was going to be OK.
Luckily my son only sustained a concussion and a few abrasions and was released from the hospital a few hours later. I couldn’t imagine what would have happened without the quick response and medical expertise of the Tumwater Fire Department EMS staff. Not only did they provide top quality medical care, but also were empathetic and kind. They are exactly the kind of people you want and need to assist you through an emergency. It didn’t feel like another call in a long line that day, but that they actually cared about us.
I think it’s imperative to continue supporting these services so they can help others just the way they helped my family."
